Chad Compton - "Neck-beards are in":

Hometown: Ventura, California
Raised on the powerful beach breaks of Ventura County, Chad became the youngest ever to be on the cover of Surfer Magazine at 15 years old. A winner of numerous amateur surfing titles, Chad was also featured in another publication Surfing Magazine as being in the "Top 100" surfers in the world - two years in a row! And in a moment that has landed him on the wrong end of a lot of our jokes, he was also a nominee at the Teen Surf Awards.

Now a man, Chad still competes, rips, and wins - regularly. His wave knowledge and surfing ability have been a great addition the Islands Team.

Das Jesson - "when life gives you lemons, make gold":

As a kid, Das grew up hanging out, working, and learning the business at his fathers surf shop in Santa Monica (Family business for over 15 yrs.).

A life long surfer and multi-sport athlete at Palisades High School, Das accepted a baseball scholarship in college, and later turned professional for the St. Louis Cardinals. After a few years of making his rounds in the minor leagues, Das came back to Los Angeles and pursued his other passion - surfing.

His ability as an athlete and his experience as a waterman, has enhanced our team dynamics incredibly. Many have appreciated his teaching ability, but don't take my word for it, I'm just an intern - come see for yourself.

Clementine - "I'm not your bro, bro":

Clementine is our full time admin and part time instructor. Though she grew up at the beach in LA, it wasn't until she moved to Santa Cruz as an undergrad when she took up surfing.

Surfing quickly became more than just a hobby to this little citrus fruit. She contributes much of her life's happiness and well-being to surfing. Almost every morning, she skips the cup of Joe in favor for experiencing the deeply enriching affects of surfing - the staff agrees, its done wonders for her OCD.

Favorite Spot: Starbucks
Least favorite spot: Under my thumb
Favorite Food: Dylan

Dylan - "Here's what I think":

A true LA surfer, Dylan grew up under the mentorship of the well known and respected surfing-godmother, known simply as, "Steph". Steph, took him and his brother to every spot from PV to Rincon and beyond, teaching them the ever vital nuances and intricacies of each break.

In college, Dylan went to the East Coast and schooled the Ivy's with his abnormally large brain. Now back on the California coast, both he and his big brain are true seaman, spending their days sailing surfing and diving. It is quite likely that he will eventually achieve global domination by his good looks, charm and large brain.

Favorite spot: Lost Coast
Least favorite spot: Between a rock and a hard place
Favorite food: Taco trucks after midnight

Teddy - "I got it covered, no problem":

If there were ever a guy who could surf on an upside down coffee table, Teddy would be him. Born and raised on the perfect point breaks of Malibu and the not so perfect beach breaks of SM, Teddy learned to excel in all conditions on all equipment.

Formerly a Lifeguard and currently training to be a Fireman, Teddy joined the Islands Team two years ago and quickly earned the respect of even our most seasoned veterans. Good surfer, great energy, and best of all a really good guy. His only downside is that he can't stop eating Jack in the Box.

Favorite spot: Charthouse
Least favorite spot: fuzzy end of the lollypop
Favorite food: Uncle Ted-Sred's famous bbq burgers

Scott Van Handsome - "Go America":

Surfer, writer, skater, shaper, shop talker, and full time hang-er-out-er. Nobody is more fun to take a lesson from than Mr. Handsome himself, he's basically the Dos XX guy of surfing.

Scott runs our San Diego location and as a fixture in the San Diego surf scene, has developed a deep understanding of the area's beaches. Combining years of local knowledge with a hilarious personality, Scott wins the award for being this intern's favorite instructor.
